Employment FAQ & Contacts
How can I find out about employment opportunities with NRHA?
Employment opportunity information may be obtained from:
- our web site job listings >>
- our job hotline at (757) 624-8627
- our job postings in the Human Resources office at 201 Granby Street
All postings are updated weekly each Friday evening.
When does recruitment for posted positions end?
We typically post positions for seven days, from one Friday to the next Friday. If there is an exception to this length of time, it will be included in the position advertisement. NRHA reposts jobs if an insufficient number of qualified applicants have applied for an opening. Once a sufficient applicant pool is created, recruitment for that opening is closed, and no further applications are accepted.
NRHA reserves the right to close recruitment for posted positions without notice.
What happens after I submit my application?
The application is forwarded to the Human Resources (HR) generalist who is recruiting for the open position. The generalist reviews all applications received and then forwards them to the appropriate manager for further screening. After the manager identifies the applicants to be interviewed, the HR generalist contacts the selected candidates to arrange interview appointments. Once a selection is made, HR notifies all interviewed candidates of the decision.
How can I find out about the status of my application?
You may call the HR Office at (757) 314-2674. Your call will be forwarded to the HR generalist in charge of recruiting for the position for which you applied.
Because of the large number of applications received, NRHA does not notify applicants if their application was received, if it was received by the closing date, or if someone else was selected for the opening. Only interviewed candidates are notified of the decision.
How long will my application remain active?
Applications are kept on file for one year. During that period, you don’t have to submit a new application to apply for any other job posting. Instead, contact the Human Resources office at (757) 314-2674 to notify our staff that you would like to be considered for another opening. An applicant is responsible for contacting us if they wish to be considered for a specific opening.
NRHA reserves the right to contact qualified applicants to learn if they have an interest in a job opening.
Are internships available for high school and college students?
NRHA has limited intern positions available for NRHA scholarship recipients who live in our public-housing communities. If other internship opportunities become available, they would be posted similarly to our job openings and the appropriate college placement offices would be advised.
