NRHA Chief Development Officer to Retire
James E. Gehman, who has led real estate development activities at Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority for the past eight years, will retire effective December 31, 2011.
Gehman joined NRHA in 2001 as Director, Design and Construction, coming from TranSystems Corporation. He was appointed Chief Development Officer in 2002. Previously Gehman served on Norfolk’s Design Review Committee and President of the Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects. He currently serves as vice president of the board, Virginia Association of Housing and Community Development Officials.
Gehman guided NRHA’s role in developing East Beach into one of the nation’s most awarded new urbanist communities, land assembly and infrastructure installation for Old Dominion University Village, property acquisition for The Tide light rail system, establishment of NRHA Builders and Designers Guild to improve customer service and design quality as well as revamping the land inventory system.
NRHA Chief Executive Officer Shurl Montgomery noted that, “Jim attracted, motivated and led a team of dedicated public servants, that while lean in number, always met the challenges and their accomplishments make Norfolk stand out as a leader in redevelopment.”
